Industrial Forum

Innovations and future challenges in robotics and automation

Wednesday, May 8, 2013, 8:30 – 19:00, Forum 1+2

Abstract

The ultimate purpose of conducting research and finally investing in industrial robotics and automation has been to improve productivity, product quality and human working conditions. Automation equipment and related services constitute a large and rapidly growing market. Supply networks of component manufacturers and system integrators, allied to engineering skills for planning, implementing and operating advanced production facilities, are regarded as cornerstones of manufacturing innovation. Therefore, the emphasis of national and international initiatives aimed at strengthening the manufacturing base of economies is on holistic strategies for research and technical development, education, socio-economics and entrepreneurship.

ICRA 2013 is taking place in a region which is renowned for its innovative industries, which shows one of the highest industrial robot densities in the world, and which maintains one of the most active research facilities in robotics and automation.

The ICRA 2013 Industrial Forum will be dedicated to presenting highlight examples and future challenges in industrial robotics and automation mainly in the manufacturing domain. Presentations will also address examples of technology transfer of robot technology and automation, which result from cooperative efforts between research and industry, thereby motivating researchers to engage in a fruitful dialogue and cooperation with industry for creating industrial and societal impact.

The session line-up of the ICRA 2013 Industrial Forum will start with the presentations by finalists of the IERA Award, a co-IFR/IEEE effort to promote invention and entrepreneurship in robotics and automation. Further sessions will address selected examples of industrial robotics applications in various domains, robot-related technologies ranging from sensing, grippers to industrial ICT, which is now evolving into the most important basic technology for robotics.
